Learn how to make something new from something old. Instead of throwing an item of clothing away because it is worn, out of fashion or simply out of favor, turn it into something desirable and useful.

Projects:

We will be making three items from a mans' dress shirt

  1. Apron
  2. Drawstring Bag
  3. Pouch

We will also make vegetable bags from t-shirts and more, time allowing.


Basic knowledge of sewing machines required.


Minimum enrollment: 4

Skills: 

  • Use a variety of machine stitches to finish seams and add decorative elements
  • Sew in a lining
  • Sew on a button - make buttonholes
  • Install a zipper

Projects:  

  1. Stitch book: (a little bit of book each week)
  2. Market Tote 
  3. Zippered Pouch


Intermediate C

Skills: 

  • Read and follow pattern directions
  • Adjust patterns to fit
  • Finish seams and hems
  • Set in pockets
  • Sew waistband
  • Buttonholes

Projects: 

  1. Stitch book: (a little bit of book each week)
  2. Lounge pants - pockets & waistband
  3. Shorts - boys/girls
  4. Zippered T-Shirt/Top 


Advanced A

Skills: 

  • Set in sleeve
  • Sew on waistband
  • Sew in invisible zipper
  • Sew two part zipper
  • Buttons/Make buttonhole

Projects: 

  1. Stitch book: (a little bit of book each week)
  2. McCall’s 7447 Button up shirt with collar or hoodie (unisex)


Advanced B-C

Skills: 

  • Cut and sew knit fabrics
  • Use a serger to finish knit seams
  • Sew on knit binding
  • Proper needles and stitch settings


Projects: 

  1. Stitch book: (a little bit of book each week)
  2. Knit beanie 
  3. Joggers
  4. Raglan Sleeve Knit Shirt


Rec: Basic Sewing for Beginners. Fabric supplies provided by student. All sewing equipment provided. Project and supply list will be sent upon registration.

Strengthen your sewing skills and stitch techniques while making fun fabric collages.

Skills covered:

  • “Pattern” Design: How to take a drawn image and turn it into a fabric collage
  • Stitching: How to use straight and decorative stitches, including hand stitches, to “draw” on fabric
  • Textures: how to use different fabrics to create different textures in an image
  • Layering: Using Applique to build an image
  • Embellishment: Using buttons and beads to adorn an image

POLICIES

  • All sales are final.
  • Any change in sewing class dates must be made with Redding Fashion Alliance administration by contacting us at info@reddingfashionalliance.org 48 hours prior to first class start date.
  • A liability waiver and  emergency contact must be signed prior to you or your child participating in class.
  • We require parents/guardians to sign their child in and out of each class.
  • If your child is 16 or older they may sign themselves in and out of class with parent permission.
  • Parents are allowed to accompany their child if they choose.
  • We provide tools for all students.
  • Please do not drop off your child more than 15 minutes early and please be prompt for pick ups.
  • If your child has any special needs or allergies please let us know prior to the start of class.
  • If your child is dismissed from class for behavioral issues no refunds will be provided.
