Learn the basics of sewing to bring your imagination to life! Sewing is not only a practical skill or fun hobby, but a connection to the past and a bridge to future opportunities. This class will help you learn the practical skills of sewing while discovering what it means to you.


Skills Learned: 

  • Operate the sewing machine 
  • Understand sewing terms
  • Follow sewing instructions to create projects
  • Sew straight and curved seams
  • Hand sew a seam
  • Cut out simple pattern
  • Proper needles and stitch settings
  • Basic and limited fancy stitches 
  • Hems
  • Drawstring/elastic insertion
  • Hand sewing/finishing

Beginning Projects: 

  1. Drawstring Bag
  2. Circle Pillow
  3. Pillow Case

Additional projects to be determined by teacher based on student skill and time allowing


No sewing experience required. Fabric purchase by student. Some fabrics available at RFA. All sewing equipment is provided.
