Creative Sewing Skills for Youth: Mondays
Mondays 3:30-5:30 pm
4 weeks - 2hrs per session

Learn the basics of sewing to bring your imagination to life!
This class serves as an introduction to sewing a strong project. The curriculum is structured to facilitate progression from machine introduction and beginner competency to sewing with confidence.
Beginning projects include:
- Drawstring Bag
- Circle Pillow
- Pillow Case
Intermediate and independent projects:
- Once a student has acquired the necessary skills and confidence to work semi-independently, the instructor will work in cooperation with each student to create projects tailored to their interest and increasing ability
Skills taught
- Threading and operating a sewing machine safely and independently
- Understanding sewing terms
- How to follow instructions and create a project
- How to identify and correctly use tools
- Measuring, marking, and cutting increasing varieties of fabrics
- How to progress from straight line-only sewing to navigating curves, turning corners, and building dimensional projects from flat patterns
- How to identify problems and find solutions
- How to deconstruct and recreate projects
No sewing experience required. Fabric purchase by student. Some fabrics available at RFA. All sewing equipment is provided.
Class transfer and cancellation policy:
Since our classes are small (6 or less students) and tend to fill up quickly, we have established the following policy in order to keep things fair for our independent teachers.
All cancellations or transfer requests can be emailed to [email protected] and can only be refunded in full if made before 72 hours prior to the scheduled class. Transfers can only be made if there is room available.
A 75% refund will be made if notified between 72 and 48 hours prior to class.
A 50% refund will be made if you notify us less than 48 hours in advance. If you can find someone to fill your space, we’ll gladly accept them and they can pay you (acting as your refund).
By registering for this class, you are agreeing to this cancellation policy.

TEEN/ADULT PROGRESSIVE SEWING: Mondays
Mondays 6-8pm

RFA Adult Sewing classes not only teach you a valuable skill, they foster creativity and self-expression. The small class size allows for an interactive social environment, enhancing community connections and support. Students not only learn from our talented teacher but share ideas and experiences with each other.
This is a progressive project class that allows students to match their projects with their developing skills based on teacher/student evaluation. Beginning students will start with a patchwork zipper bag.
No experience is required. Instruction, basic materials, and machines are included. Some fabrics are also included depending on projects.
Skills Learned:
- How to operate a sewing machine, identify its parts, and understand sewing terms
- How to choose the proper sewing tools and how to use them
- How to identify different fabrics for different projects
- How to sew different stitches and seams, and when to use them
- How to follow sewing instructions to create projects and cut out a simple patterns

Tips and Tricks
Class Policies
- All sales are final.
- Any change in sewing class dates must be made with Redding Fashion Alliance administration by contacting us at [email protected] 48 hours prior to first class start date.
- A Liability Waiver/Emergency Contact form must be signed prior to you or your child participating in class.
- You are responsible for supplying your own fabrics and notions (based on your supply list information.)
- We do have a few fabric kits available for purchase at RFA for beginning level students.
- We do not provide childcare.
- We require parents/guardians to sign their child in and out of each class.
- If your child is 16 or older they may sign themselves in and out of class with parent permission.
- Parents are allowed to accompany their child if they choose.
- We provide sewing machines and tools for all students.
- Please do not drop off your child more than 15 minutes early and please be prompt for pick ups.
- If your child has any special needs or allergies please let us know prior to the start of class.
- If your child is dismissed from class for significant behavioral issues no refunds will be provided.
Vintage Sewing Machines For Sale
Need a basic workhorse for your projects? Want to find out if you like sewing without breaking the bank on a machine? We have vintage sewing machines available at reasonable prices. These donated machines have been given the "once over" and are good for basic use. List prices are donation suggestions. Proceeds go into out educational supplies fund.

ELNA 2002 SERIES: $45 Stitches well. Right control knob can be a bit temperamental at times. A strong, basic, machine.

JC PENNEY: $10 Has a great straight stitch. The stitch pattern mechanism is a bit stiff - setting in the blue range work.

SEW & SERGE: $25 Strong-heavy duty machine with a manual buttonholer, which is perfect for large buttons. Settings 5 & 6 are so-so. Comes with a case and serge attachments
